My grandparents were all alive in the war. My Nanna was 16 1/2 - please read her memories page. My Grandad Alf worked as an engineer on warships and the like. One of my favourite photos of him is when he is cleaning an aeroplane engine which has Minnie Mouse on it. I never managed to meet him - he died when my Mum was 16. ( a very bad age apparently in our family!) But most of my other realtions did and speak very highly of him so he must of been a great guy - well if he was related to us anyway! (joke).
On my Dad's side, his parents got married in the war - I want to get my Grandma to write i down so I can put them up here as well. His half sister was born during the war.
My Grandad was born during the 1st world war as well.
They know all about ration booklets as do my Uncle and Dad sort of because they werent born long after it.
I of course, being born a long time after dont know half as much. But I love asking questions and hearing all their stories. My Grandad's make me laugh because he used to do all sorts of crazy things as a communicationy thingymabob - nobody actually knows!
There will hopefully be at least one more story put on - hopefully the wedding one because my Grandma tells that one very well! Come back soon and take another look.....
