My late father was a medic during WW2 and served in Africa, Malta and Western Europe. I was brought up on "when I was in the war" stories and he put a lot of his experiences in print prior to his death in 1995. He was quite rightly very proud of his achievements during the war and his recollections not only make fascinating reading but, along with the collection of poems he had, give an insight into how those brave young men felt during dar dark times. I wonder if 18 and 19 year olds of today would volunteer so readily for Armed service ? I hope this project by BBCi takes off........we should never forget.
