My wife's Aunt kept a fairly detailed diary of her wartime experiences . She was a middle-aged spinster in 1939 and desperately tried to do her bit but was defeated by bureaucracy and red tape.
Her diaries ,three ms exercises books ,close written , are riveting reading on the lines of "Uncle" Walter Musto's.
She travelled all over the South of England staying in hotels or with friends or even slight acquaintances .
We would very much like them to be published and I can give excerpts if anyone is interested.
She was very well-connected knew peoplle from high society and was also the last surviving great great grand neice of the Duke of Wellington. A witty and animated conversationalist who could also discuss the merits of concrete mixes for particular purposes among other things . She was an active member of the "Pipers' Guild " who made her own pipes. They played at her memorial service.
