About the contributor

I grew up on the Sussex coast at Bexhill-on-Sea, went to Eastbourne Technical School as the start of my technical education. In October 1940 the family moved to Oxford, where we had relatives and I started work at No1 Civilian Repair Unit at Cowley. The Unit was involved with the repair of Spitfire and Hurricane fighter planes and Miles Master and Miles Magister training aircraft.
