Hello, My Grandad, Frederick Davies Havard (now 90 years old), asked me to put his war story on this website - he was on the TSS California which was travelling in a convoy with the SS Duchess of York, and a destroyer HMS Douglas and 2 frigates. The convoy was attacked and the California and the Duchess of York were sunk off the coast of spain. The story is told in more detail as article A2286731 titled An Incident in the Peoples War.

Fred was interested in making contact with survivors of the same incident, but has sadly passed away suddenly (aged 91). I shall leave his story on this website in his memory.

Kate Powell
