my grandfather was in the home gaurd during the war. This involved night shifts. During these night shifts, he was forced to leave his 8 yr old son in the house alone. this was a house out in the country , with no near neighbours, no electricity and no radio.
This was the reason for his moving back to live with parents, the childs grandparents and my greatgrandparents. Leaving an 8 yr old by himself at night was to cruel for him to do.

His son, my father is now over 70 yr old and to this day, his grandchildren have only to say that they want to go home and home they go , if this is the middle of the night, so be it.
He tells me that it is a terrible thing to want your parents and not be able to have them.

The war did terrible things to all the people involved didn't it.
