Our lorries in Lille Main Square, 3-4 pm on V.E. Day.

"My outstanding memory of the war was being in a convoy of six NAAFI vehicals arriving in Lille Main Square en route from Caen to Brussels at about 3.00 p.m. on May 8th, 1945 - V.E. Day.
Our trucks were immediately swamped with french civilians struggling for vantage points to listen to the town's loudspeakers which were broadcasting Winston Churchill's announcement of the end of the war in Europe. This was followed by a night of celebrations."
