I was born on 16th May 1939, as a child I remember being woken up in the night to go to the air raid shelter. I didn’t like it very much. When I was at school, we’d even have to take shelter in the coal stores. One Christmas Eve, when we were sheltering, one thought troubled me; would Father Christmas be able to find us. I also remember hearing the Football results on a Saturday; I thought they referred to the amount of bombs being dropped on each city!
