During the war my Father was a firefighter
here is a couple of stories he told me.
The first one is: while he was off-duty he was standing looking out to sea,on the North side of the Tyne,he witnessed the German Bombers that went up the Tyne, these
were the Bombers that bombed Jarrow.
The second one is: an unexploded bomb was lying in the backlane next to Woolworth,s,
which is on Saville Street, in North Shields. One of his crew went up the lane and shouted look at all the money lying around we're rich, my Father shouted if that
bomb goes off you won't be around to spend it.
My Father had been to the best of my knowledge a Leading Firefighter since 1937,
and also the fire engine driver.
