My mum worked on a farm in the war, there was a lot of Black market food around on the farm. Although my mum wasn't supposed to know she did, as it was a very badly kept secret that the black market stuff was stashed in ..."The billiard room"! a secret place, no one could enter unless given express permission! One day some Oranges arrived, and mum could hardly contain her excitement, as oranges had not been seen for ages. She hoped she might be given omne to take to her family , but the oranges wereleft to shrivel and blacken, Mumwas outraged but said nothing. She said it was amazing to peep into the fabled "Billiard room from time to time, and see the forbidden things that passed through, as the war years rolled by.
