Saved by his glasses case

My late husband - Fred Beer - was called up and was sent to North Africa with General Alexander’s 14th Army. He was with another soldier who was manning their machine gun. He was killed by a direct hit machine gun bullet but my husband’s metal glasses case saved himself. It hit his case right by his heart and ricochetted down through his ribs. He crawled into a gully and was luckily picked up by one of out tanks and taken back to a field hospital.
