Whilst serving with the local Home Guard in 1941I was a member of the first aid team, on an all night exercise we had been kept busy treating all those who had a label telling us what their 'wonds' were. Then as dawn was breaking we saw a civilian ambulance pulling away from a road block. When I inquired I was told a 'Guardsman' had been injured when a thunder flash exploded in his hand. "So why didn't you send for us" I asked, a very surprised man said "But he was really hurt" which just about sums up what our first aid was thought off.
