Whilst researching my family history I came across this entry in the local newspaper (the Worksop Guardian) dated 26 Mar 1943.

My grandmother (Jane Teal) was 82 years old at the time and while she revealed her knowledge of the people in an 1887 photograph told the reporter that although not in any official role she was an enthusiastic fire watcher for her area of the town. She had lived in the house she was 'looking after' for 80 years having moved there at the age of two years.
