As a child school was interrupted for 3 months when the war started. I was supposed to keep up with lessons but I didn’t bother — something that kept me behind for the rest of my life.
Everybody pulled together and helped one another. I was 12 but a child compared to kids these days. Despite being so young I really understood the danger and importance of the situation. A few people died in my street during the war. Thinking about it now I was so lucky — at the time I thought I would never grumble again, but I have done
