My uncle Ed from Ponteland lost an eye in Italy (or was it North Africa?)

I understand that whilst loading the gun the shell blew up in the breach killing all around and by all accounts he was very lucky.

He eventually lost his use of his good eye when he was in his 70's and was well supported by St Dunstans

His service information is:

1. R.E.Taylor 1148444 W. Troop. Range Bty. letter dated 22nd December 1943
2. L/BDR Taylor SOFA RTD(NA) BNAF
3. School of artillery letter 4th May 1944
4. Lost an eye in Italy. Letter to M.A.Taylor dated 4th October 1944 from Edna Boulter.
