The very end- VE Day, it was tremendous we had a great celebration in Lilleshall, and they had a Queen, and I lent her my wedding dress, and I made her crown for her. Then we had a football match — the men dressed in women’s clothes, and the ladies dressed in football kit. And I wore a pair of flat-heeled shoes, and I was running for all I was worth with this ball and all of a sudden, I must have fallen, and I had a very badly sprained ankle.
Everyone thought it was a joke or something but I had to get carried off the field, and had to be taken in to the men’s dressing room. I couldn’t go to the dance that night either for the celebrations.
