In the Meadows area of Nottingham there was a machine gun tower. It was regularly fired at and in turn regularly fired at enemy aircraft. One day a German pilot’s plane came down. In the collision his head and arms had been separated from his body — it was an awful mess and a very sad sight, no matter what side you were on.
