One day we heard the siren go while playing outside. Mr Senior, our teacher, told us to walk quickly round the back of the school to the Anderson Shelter.

Before we could get there, we all heard the sound of a plane, and on looking out toward Bolton Road saw a plane diving down and dropping a bomb in the area of the ROF factory at Lower Darwen.

Next day, my father confirmed that indeed a bomb was dropped on Lower Darwen
