This story was submitted to the Peoples War website by a volunteer from Three Counties Action at the Stevenage Renaissance Club with Mrs. Gulliver’s permission. Mrs. Gulliver fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

I remember seeing a notice in the butchers window saying “sorry no offal”. Many years later I asked my mother what it meant and she explained that meat was on ration but not offal i.e. kidneys and liver etc, therefore queue’s and requests for offal were frequent. I also remember my mother buying men’s shaving soap stick instead of soap.
