All I remember about WW2 is being happy despite all of the various problems. Despite all the risks and hardships, the overwhelming feeling I had at that time was one of joy.
I was in a reserved occupation - entertainment and theatre - but I volunteered for the forces.
Despite the break up of my family, my father and I managed very well alone. During that time, from age 13 onwards I, my eldest brother and our father were very close for the only time in our lives.
I have so many memories but I prefer to write them down in a letter. I do not care much for telephones, although whilst still at school I used to operate the local Home Guard pBX switchboard in my spare time.
My father was the officer of our local Home Guard. I only have to see a Dad's Army episode to feel I'd like to go back to that time and be really happy as I was then.
People used to work together really well then; there was not the unkindness and lack of caring then that is sadly abundant and rife now.
My name is Joy and I can be contacted by letter at 37 Milburn Road, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 1PQ
My son has written this for me as he has a computer.
