When joining into private digs. Not enough pay to pay for living. Uniform not good no warmth, very poor admin, if only from Headquarters. Got out through ill health.
Went to work in the dark and sat in a shed till light before digging carrots - Cabbages. Wet through up to your waist for 2p a sack. Cabbages piece work but our boss made good our wage.
