Story told to Christine Barker at the VE Day Celebrations in Beverley 2005

I was evacuated to Doncaster area, Ousten Ferry. It was a lovely family they were really kind. Mr and Mrs Duffels they had two little girls of their own
After a week I was a bit homesick though and I wrote home and asked can my dad, or Tommy, that’s my older brother, to come for me on a bike. There were no cars then but it was a bit far to cycle so I stayed.
