Mum used to give us a hot drink every night before we laid down - it was so cold and damp in the shelter. But one night we'd all settled down, just going off while there was a lull in the bombing, and my young sister, Joan, shot up in bed, saying, "We ain't 'ad our whisky yet, Mum."
Mum used to put a teaspoonful in our drink to help us sleep, but had run out - we laughed about that for weeks afterwards!
