I remember one occasion when my dad was posted to the POW Camp on Shady Lane in Leicester (it was a compassionate posting) and he was able to come home briefly.
There was one particular visit when dad came in to the kitchen and tipped a ginger kitten out of his kit bag. It had come from Shady Lane in Evington.
I was about four or five years old and this became my first pet.
A can't remember what I called it but we had it for quite a few years.
