24th December - 1944

The troop train that I was on stopped in Koblenz. At about lunchtime we were strolling about outside the train. We noticed a squadron of American planes approaching from across the Rhine. We saw bombs dropping onto the Rhine. Only a short time after, our troop train was attacked and several bombs hit it. It all happened within a few minutes. Some people got injured. One person got killed in the carriage that was hit by a bomb. That was our Christmas gift.
