World War II
A memory.

It is December 21st. 2003 and here I am, sixty-nine years old and living in Florida, USA. I have just watched the movie “The Blonde Bombshells” starring Judi Dench and Ian Holm on HBO TV. (great movie)
Several times the younger version of Ian Holm (?) mentions that he is ‘on the run’, refering to the fact that he was a deserter. He does this with no feeling of shame or regret. Now when I look back to my childhood I remember people talking about men being ‘on the run’. I cannot remember anyone being disgusted by it. It seemed to be accepted that it was something that happened.
Has there ever been a serious study on the subject?
(other tales later) Stan Shaw
