I remember going home from Queenstown School and one German aircraft machine-gunned up Regent Street, and then back down Princess Street where I was walking at the time. Most people dived in doorways for cover. Incidentally one of the bullets made a hole in brother-in-law Cyril Guy's cycle shop at the bottom of Victoria Hill. It was all quite exciting but frightening as well - no one was hurt, as I remember. There was a report and photographs in the local paper, The Evening Advertiser of this event
