We were not prepared for war. My husband was in the 7th East Yorks Regiment and stationed initially in Cornwall. They had expected and waited for Hitler to invade after our troops came out of France. The men stood on cliffs with guns, but no bulletts! They were careful not to tell the Cornish people. They planned to set the sea on fire with petrol as a defence if the Germans invaded. Fortunately, this never happened!
