When I was about six years old and at boarding school near Hawkhurst. My bed was near the window, one night a bomb was dropped nearby and glass from the window fell in and covered my bed. Miss Bevern the head mistress came in and got me out of bed, so that I wasn’t cut. Weeks later we walked to see the bomb crater, in the centre of the crater I found a pansy growing which I picked and still have pressed in my bible.
