My sister Alice Healey AKA Irene drove an ambulance in the WRAF.
When peace was declared Irene was thrilled to be chosen to take part in the Victory Parade.
A full dress rehearsal was held at Leicester Aerodrome. In the parade there were over 200 men and just 8 women .The women drove 5 and 10-ton trucks and ambulances.
I was 13 at the time and as I had just come out of hospital after an operation on my foot my mother wouldn't let me go and watch the parade.
My father and a friend saw the parade and said how smart they all looked in their uniforms. They all looked so proud.
Sadly we do not have any photographs of the occasion, but my sister did have her name in our local paper and was thrilled to go to the local cinema with her friends and watch the parade on the PATHE news.
