FOR THE MONTH BEFORE D-DAY NY FATHER SWOPPED
HIS GLOUCESTERSHIRE VILLAGE PARISH TO BECOME
A COOK DECKHAND IN THE 'SMALL VESSELS POOL'
IN THE PORTSMOUTH AREA.THE JOB WAS TO SERVICE
THE BIGGER SHIPS THAT WERE FILLED WITH THE TROOPS AND SUPPLIES PREPARING FOR THE BIG DAY.
HE RETURNED HOME ON THE AFTERNOON OF THE 5 JUNE LOOKING SUN BURNT. HE WAS VERY EXCITED TELLING US THAT "THE INVASION MUST COMU SOON "AND THAT THE
WHOLE AREA WAS PACKED WITH PEOPLE AND EQUIPMENT.
WITHIN TWELVE HOURS THE INVASION HAD BEGUN.
