We lived near the Drill Hall (where the soldiers met) in Nureaton Warwickshire near Coventry. My father used to provide snacks and a “sing song” around the piano for them one night my sister was passing a soldier on guard Duty he shouted “Halt who goes there?” she said “ it’s me I have been here before. I live here.” This has caused much amusement through the years.
