SPRING 1944 ,SOMPTING .We moved into The Old Sussex Guest House ,my mother had purchased the property as it was fairly run down the previous owner having been interned on the Isle of Man being a German lady.There were 6 bedrooms upstairs,a room with a bath,the toilet was down in the yard.Shortly before moving in a bomb had dropped on the military camps opposite ,killing some service women,and bringing all our ceilings down.The War Damage claim,paid for the replastering.Mother named the guesthouse T he Smugglers .We had many troops service women and evacuees .rosemary
