My husband was in the ‘Specials’ the Special Constabulary. We had evacuees from leeds and Sheffield. I used to look after a neighbour’s daughter as she drove for the Home Guard. I also looked after a French boy whose mother used to work for the Free French, but I lost contact with them after the war as they returned to France.
