A Little Bambino

The Germans surrender in Italy. I return to Foggia HMS to a school opposite a small house. I started to befriend a peasant family who lived there (I could get by with Italian). One day the eight-year old daughter is sent to find me at the school. She finds me and says ‘Mama wants to see you’. I go over and mama is in bed with her new-born baby, she wanted me to be the first to see the bambino. Italy was at war with us when we landed in there.
