Early 1939, I joined ARP as a boy messenger aged just 14.
I graduated to dispatch rider with the AFS and then later the NFS, on standby for the Liverpool blitz.
At 18, I joined the Fleet Air Arm as an air mechanic, serving later in the Pacific Fleet, moving to liberate Hong Kong.
I then did a short duty in the Hong Kong Police
