On VJDay a party was planned for children at the local infant/junior school in Perivale, near Wembley. There was a fancy dress competition and my parents dressed me up as a “doll in a box”, I wore a pretty dress and my father made an enormous box which went over the top of me. I had to hold on to each side of the box as I walked along. I was 6 years old at the time and I think I won a prize.
