My grand-father, in 1943, was a communist, and belonged to French resistance, when he was arrested a first time. He asked a day a fredoom to attend his father's funeral, this was granted to him, provided he came back to prison at an agreed time, which he did! Then he was told "Cavin, you kept your word, then, you are free!"
Thanks to that, he then had time to become father to a fourth child, my mother, born on the 10th of May 1944. Six month after, my grand-father was arrested with three other men of our little village: they had certainly be denounced under torture by a fourth one. On the 16th of November 1944, after five days of torture, nine men were taken outside the town of Montbeliard. My grandfather tried to escape... and then, became the first one to be shot. He let a 29 years old widow and four children, aged 10 years to 6 months: my mother would never know her father.
Montbeliard was fred on the 18th of November.
