Jim Adie and crew from the Empire Wave were torpedoed by a u boat on 2/10/1941.Half the crew perished when the ship was sunk the other half managed to board a lifeboat. their position was 500 miles from Iceland.Petty Officer Cameron took comand.the crew only had enough rations for the first few days. which consisted of a ships bisciut,half a cup of water and some salt tablets. The wind began to blow them off course, however, it changed direction again.The last flair was sent up and spotted by the Icelandic people. An airplane was sent to locate them and they were rescued by an Icelandic fishing trawler,Suprise. One man died, all lost part of body with frostbite
