My grandfather was not great man. Some might call him a scoundrel, his friends may have called him better, my granny a lot worse. However, during the war he volunteered for the convoys of ships which protected the merchant ships carrying food coming into britain. A dangerous job considering many ships went down. My grandfather survived and returned home after the war and was a poor husband and dad (not caused by the war because he was like that before).
I think this story just shows that even scoundrels and thieves were heroes during world war two. The war brought out the best in all people in the worst of times.
