The original diary.

This is the diary wiritten by my mother at the very start of the war. It is on a very small notepad and starts and stops equally abruptly. The interesting thing is the fact that the radio became such a part of her daily life.
This I presume fromthe facts she gives -Mum was never a newspaper reader! This is the translation for September-

Sept 13th Wednesday
Polish recapture on e of their towns (?) Lodoz. Slovakia 10000 men march into Hungary refusing to fight.

Sept 14th Thursday
French captured the German town of Sauerbrucke(?). Nazi bomb Warsaw many injured & killed. RAF bomb nazi warship

Sept 15th Friday
French press new advance. Germany evacuation of Western Front. German allegations to have captured one town. Big French tank attack.

Sept 16th Saturday
2000 Polish people have been killed in fortnight. Nazi boats have been sunk by british u-boat — Soviet & Japan truce

Sept 17th Sunday
Russia inside Polish frontier. French 12 miles over Maginot Line into Germany.

Sept 18th Monday
Russia 40 miles into Poland. Germany might call an armistice in Warsaw.
HMS. Courageous aircraft carrier sunk. The German submarine was sunk with it. All survivors have been saved. RAF pilot bombs u-boat. Sinks it.

Sept 19th Tuesday
630 survivors from Courageous have been saved. France fighting on new Western Front.

Sept 20th Wednesday
Hitler’s speech in Danzig will be answered by Chamberlain today
Riots in many small countries in Europe.

Sept. 21st Thursday
Goebbels arrested by Goering’s personal bodyguard
Croats riot in Prague

Sept 22nd Friday
Roumanian Minister assassinated by Iron guard. French move forward. Heavy artillery fire. Germany gives half of Poland to Soviets

Sept 23rd Saturday
German General Killed. 400 iron guard executed in Roumania.

24th September Sunday
Heavy bombing on Warsaw. Big attacks on Western Front.
2 thirds of Poland is taken by Soviet Russia

25th Sept Monday
RAF flights over Germany in daylight. Warsaw sees wprse stand which war at over 1000 have been killed

Sept 26th Tuesday
Big campaign against u-boats
Big blockade against Germany
French bring guns in line with Siegfried Line

Sept 27th Wednesday
31 Survivers of Steamer Rippentoff visit Moscow
French Gain the Ericar(?) owned by France were taken by German vote — Warsaw Fallen

28th Sept Thursday
Hitler visits Willharsennen — RAF brings down Nazi attack plans

29th September Fridayt
Registration Day
Sovietg & German divide Poland This deprives Germany of 2 thirds of oil which is in Russian claim.

Sept 30th Saturday
French attacks and claims 50 villages in Saar region.; RAF flights over Germany some came in attack with German planes some casualties.
