My grandfather was a great character who lived a long and happy life. As a family we never found out much about the action that he saw in WWII - he never thought anyone would be interested! After his death in 1998 I unearthed many photographs taken whilst he was in the Army in the Middle East. I am keen to find out more about his war and hope that this site may help.

He was Lieutenant Phillip Oliver Radway P/268256 Royal Signals who enlisted into Royal Signals Territorial Army (no. 2587465)on 28.06.39 posted to 501 Mobile Middlesex Yeomanry; attached to RHA; posted to 12th regiment; posted to 6th Armoured Divisional Signals; attached to 148 Independent Brigade Group; was appointed to a Commission as 2nd Lieutenant in Royal Signals and posted to 15 Divisional Signals 24.03.43. He landed in NW Europe 14.06.44, came back to UK 13.07.44 (maybe this was for treatment to his shrapnel wound), went back to NW Europe 28.08.44 and was eventually posted to 3 Divisional Signals. He disembarked Middle East Force 30.10.45 and was posted to Alexandria Signals 22.04.46. He relinquished his commission on 01.07.59 and granted the honourary rank of Lieutenant.

He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star (No. 589) the certificate is dated 03.04.45.
