I went to Courtney Street School and I lived in Waller Street with Mam, Dad and my sisters Ivy, May, Doris and Lily.

During air raids we went to the shelter in Craven Street School. Whenever there was an air raid the following day we could not go to our own school but had to go to Maybury Street School which was a good hike from home. The good thing about it was we only did half a day and to this day I don't know why we had to move schools the day after an air raid.
