I was eight when war began. We lived in Withernsea and my dad was the Captain of the Home Guard. We had a garage which was at the front of the house so we had was petrol and oil out there. In a corregated shed at the back of the house dad stored the ammunition for the Home Guard. There were malatoft cocktails and other explosives very handy if needed - but I don't think it'd pass highly on a health and safety checklist!
