27TH MAY 1940-30TH
"WE ARRIVED IN A LIVING HELL CALLED DUNKIRK WHEN I GOT THERE I WAS A CORPRAL WE LOST OUR CAPT,2 LUTENANT,3 RSM AND 5 SERGENANTS WHICH LEFT ME INCHARGE OF OUR BATTALION. I HAD LEFT TOO SOON MY WIFE WAS EXPECTING A BABY AND I THOUGHT I WOULD NOT SEE OUR LITTLE BOY OR GIRL" THAT IS WHAT HE SAIDIN HIS DIARY. HE WAS CAPTURED BY GERMAN SS OFFICERS ON THE EVACUATION OPERATION HE WAS TAKEN TO A SMALL FAMER'S FIELD ALL HIS MEN APART FROM HIS SECOND-IN-COMMAND,LANCE CORPRAL JONES WERE SHOT AS FOR THEM THEY PUNCH THE GUARDS SHOT THE SS OFFICER AND STOLE HIS PAPERS. THEY LOOK AND ONLY FOUND ONE OF THEIR MEN ALIVE, PRIVATE FRAZER THEY HELPED HIM UP AND DRESSED IN THE GERMAN UNIFORM A TOOK THEIR PASSPORTS THEY RAN AND GOT ON 3 TRAINS AND MADE IT TO SPAIN WHERE THEY WERE SENT BACK TO THEIR HOMES IN NEWCASTLE HE HAD 2 CHILDREN, ROBERT J.R AND MARGIE. HE DATES ARE (1919-1977)
