I dont know alot about what my grandfather did in the second world war and he never talked about what happend i only know of two things for sure my grandfather was one of the few who survived at dunkirk and narowly escaped death at arnum. my grandfather joined the oxford buks in his twenties and was sent out to fight in europe. at the evacuation of dunkirk my grandfathers regiment was almost wiped out and on a few of them remained they were ambushed by a german force on the way to the beaches whaire the british troops were evacuating from i can only imagin what it must have been like for him watching his freinds and colegues die my grandfather suvived and made it back to england back to a small town in gloucester called dursley whaire he met my grandmother. My grandfather got orders to form up a new regiment the oxford buks sixth airborn devision who were to fly gliders over to arnum and take the bridge their my grandfather was one of the glider co pilots. They made their drop on arnum and fought their way through a feild when my grandfathers troop got pinned down by sniper fire they manidge to crawl along a dithch but the co was pinned down and my grandfather was the only one willing to go back and rescue him in doing so my grandfather was shot 3 times but he manidged to rescue his co thinking my grandfather was dead his troop moved on my grandfather lay in the feild for 48 hours befor anouther troop came along and found him. He was then sent back to england whaire he served as a body guard to an important officer which i do not have the name of and he eventualy married my grandmother. although my grandfather passed away a couple of years ago i still think of him he did win medals although they were taken from my father when he was young by a person passing buy it would be nice to get some replicas made up with a picture of him and his regiment so i could give it to my father as a keep sake.
