Lifeboats in Cromer have always been busy and particularly during the years of 1894 — 1947, when Henry Blogg was a volunteer crewman for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Dedicated to the life of Coxswain Henry Blogg, the RNLI Museum stands as a tribute to the partnership he held with the RNLI Lifeboat, the HF Bailey. During his 53 years of service Henry Blogg launched the HF Bailey 387 times and rescued hundreds of lives. Many of these rescues took place during the war years. Blogg received the RNLI’s Gold Medal for Gallentry three times, the Silver medal four times, the George Cross and the Bristish Empire Medal all in gratitude to the work he had so modestly carried out. The museum celebrates the work of all crews, past and present in Cromer and stands to tell us of the life and rescues of Henry Blogg off the Norfolk shore.
The Museum is currently being re-developed and is due to re-open during the 2006 Easter period.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution was founded in 1824 and we have stations up and down the coast of Britain, lots with their own history of the war years and stories to share with you.
We look forward to welcoming you to our piece of history.
