This story was submitted by Maxine Leith for Three Counties Action on behalf of Charles ‘Wag’ Handscombe and has been added to the site with his permission. The author fully understands the site’s terms and conditions.

One summer’s night in 1945, Wag and his brother Bob were in bed, Wag heard a Doodle Bug and said to Bob, “There’s a Doodle Bug coming over!” Bob said “Oh it’s gone over now it won’t hurt us.” All of a sudden there was an almighty bang and it blew up in a river at Chicksands about a mile away. It destroyed a hut but no one was hurt.
