As a member of the RAF I was stationed at Blackpool for a while. Unlike the Army, in the RAF you didn’t move around very much you where posted. A posting came in one day for Wick in Scotland. Myself and another officer both put in for it and eventually we tossed a coin for it. I went to Wick where they were forming a new squadron that later went onto the aircraft carrier. Whilst on the aircraft carrier we went to the Far East finishing up in Australia. On that flip of a coin I ended up at the other side of the world. If the other guy had lost I’d have stayed at Blackpool — which may have been far better.
