John Comins (My Grandma’s brother)

Joined the East Yorkshire Regiment (“The Commercials”) in 1916 and rapidly (as often the case in war) promoted to Corporal. However, decided that he didn’t like giving orders to his mates and handed his stripes back, “becoming a private again”.
Came home on leave in 1917 in a terrible state, just sitting in a chair in his greycoat picking lice out of his coat and clothes with a pin, sometimes burning them off with matches.
“Stopped a bullet” in mid-March 1918 and died a few days later. Buried at Frevent
in large British cemetery.
